Shodan

What’s wrong with me?
My problem is that when I actually get into a streetfight, my adrenaline doesn’t kick in and I forget the knowledge I was given during all my years in martial arts despite my natural calm personality. Why is this? I am one of the few students to actually become a Shodan in my sensei’s dojo and I am the victor in my spars. Can someone tell me why this is and how I can overcome it?
I’ll bet you are a very compassionate person. If that is the case, then it is your compassion that restrains you. That’s not what I would call a problem, just a reason.
Somehow, you need to learn to separate yourself from that part of your personality, when fighting is impossible to avoid. You can always regain your compassion afterward.
