The Lost Techniques of Shotokan KataHave you ever felt like something is missing from your kata application? Something is...In 1922 Master Funakoshi published his first book, Ryukyu Kenpo Karate (re-published as Karate Jutsu). In it he discusses the "soft" side of karate, similar to Ju-Jutsu, and illustrates several throwing techniques, all of which he describes as applications in various kata. What happened to them? The answer to this question, and many more, can be found in these two exciting seminars conducted by Sensei Paul Lopresti.Mr. Lopresti will discuss the principals behind the rediscovery of these techniques and teach many of these hidden applications. In addition to the traditional striking, hitting, and kicking techniques, he will demonstrate strangulation, throwing, takedown, and submission techniques, without deviating from the precise movements of the kata. These seminars are a must for anyone who seeks to understand traditional karate!*Due to the nature of many of the techniques, which can stress joints, bones, and muscle tissue, the seminars are restricted to students sixteen (16) and older. Separate youth seminars will be offered for those under sixteen. |
